In which I sing a bilingual 52-second song about the lack of a proper German translation of ‘awesome’.
Die Formulierung toll bedeutet awesome
German is a language that is complex and confusing
It contains such words as Sitzpinkler which can be quite amusing
But if you start to look for an adequate translation
Of ‘awesome’ you’ll find a lexical gap
The dictionary says ‘toll’ means ‘awesome’
But that doesn’t sound quite as cool
The meaning of ‘toll’ used to be ‘mad’ and ‘crazy’
Sometimes when I say it, I feel like a fool
Die deutsche Sprache hat viel mehr Facetten
Als die englische Sprache und ich könnte wetten
Dass noch niemand eine adäquate Übersetzung
Für das Wort ‘awesome’ gefunden hat
Die Formulierung ‘toll’ bedeutet ‘awesome’
Zumindest steht es so im Wörterbuch
Doch immer wenn ich sagen möchte, etwas sei ‘awesome’
Finde ich im Deutschen nicht das Wort, das ich such

Don’t Forget That Brains Attract
I cut my hair, got contact lenses, bought myself a fancy shirt
My friend asked: Have you lost your senses? May I have a word?
He said:
Don’t forget that brains attract
Your make-up can’t hide the fact
It doesn’t matter what you wear
As long as your pants are there
There is more to other people than just their looks
I’d rather have a woman with a large collection of books
Don’t forget that brains attract
Your make-up can’t hide the fact
It doesn’t matter what you wear
As long as your pants are there

Darling, Fetch the Battle Axe
The front door is about to give away
The Dark Lord’s warriors are on their way
You can hear them calling through the cracks
So darling, fetch the battle axe
A skald I am and a skald I’ll be
But I hear the battle is calling me
You never know what happens next
So darling, fetch the battle axe
